Now Mauritius Wants the Big Fat Indian Weddings

Chennai: With destination weddings catching up among rich Indian families, the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius – home to a sizable Indian diaspora – is targeting this segment, a senior official said.

“We have started talking to wedding planners in India. We took a group of wedding planners from here to Mauritius and plan to take another group soon to showcase what Mauritius offers,” Vijaye Haulder, deputy director of Mauritius Tourism Development Authority, told IANS.

Haulder, whose forefathers hailed from West Bengal and settled in Mauritius, was in India to conduct road shows in four Indian cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore. He said Indian wedding planners would also be given handsome incentives to bring meetings, conferences and exhibitions to Mauritius.

“Duty free liquor is also offered,” he added.

Mauritius is a well-known wedding destination for European celebrities and sportspersons.

“In the case of Europeans or other nationalities, the wedding group would be not more than 10-15 people. In many cases only the to-be-married couple would come here. But Indian weddings are different,” Haulder said.

He said the size of Indian wedding groups coming to Mauritius ranges between 350 and 800. Such a large size bodes well for Air Mauritius – the sole airline flying direct to Mauritius out of India – and the hotels and other tourist operators there.

Haulder said around 8-10 Indian weddings are now being held in Mauritius each year. According to him, around 10 celebrity weddings also take place in Mauritius. The celebrities come from varied fields – movie actors (China, Japan, Hollywood), football players and others.

Queried about promoting such weddings among Indian celebrities, he said: “We are open. We can have it free of cost. It would be a brand-building exercise for us among Indians.”

“It is not only marriages, even engagement ceremonies and pre-engagement photography is being done in Mauritius by Indians,” said Medha Sampat, founder, Knack Marketing, a travel marketing and representative company in Mumbai.

The company is the India representative for Sun Resorts Ltd., which runs star-rated hotels in Mauritius.

Mauritius Tourism also hopes to attract around 60,000 Indians to Mauritius this year, up from around 58,000 people who travelled there last year. According to Haulder, the island nation is confident of attracting more than one million tourists this year, up from over 900,000 who visited in 2013.

The emperor’s clothes: Celebrities in naked dresses

Amber Rose may have turned heads at MTV’s 2014 Video Music Awards for wearing a few chains and a g-string, but she’s certainly not the first celebrity to bare it all in public.

Like it or not, celebrities have been wearing the naked dress for decades and Rose is only the most recent in a long list of brave women who have gone nude.

In fact, Rose’s dress resembles another infamous VMA outfit: that of actress Rose McGowan, from the 1998 award.

Accompanying MarilynManson, McGowan wore a “dress” that consisted of a short fishnet layer at the front, which displayed her bare breasts and leopard print g-string.

Model Amber Rose turned heads in her barely-there, chain link dress at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

The outfit wasn’t any better from behind, with a few loose black stings hanging over her bare bottom.

Some nude dresses are accidental (or at least partially so).

Kate Moss’ famous see-through silver slip, which she wore to an Elite Model party in 1993, was apparently less see-through in real life and became transparent only thanks to the camera flashes.

“Underwear as outerwear was the mood of the moment,” Liza Bruce, who designed the famous dress, said in the 2008 book Kate Moss: Style.

“The dress did come out more transparent in the picture (than in reality), which is maybe why she had the confidence to wear it … It wasn’t a come on … it was just ‘this is me’. Her body language was so much like a kid’s.”

Considering Moss was a tender 19 years old when she wore it, it’s not very surprising that she donned the dress thinking it was more opaque than it was.

Perhaps Melody Thorton suffered a similar camera flash mishap when she attended ELLE’s Women in Music event in 2012.

The former Pussycat Doll showed up at the event in a golden-brown dress thatappeared to be completely see through.

It was very clear Thorton was wearing no underwear or bra – luckily the lace dress had layers at the front, otherwise the world would have seen all of her private parts.

It’s hard to tell whether the dress was purposefully sheer or not, but as harsh camera flash is a common problem with semi-sheer outfits in Hollywood the dress was probably not meant to be as sheer as it turned out.

Then there are celebrities who have conciously decided to go (practically) naked on the red carpet.

Ice T’s wife Coco Austin wore a tight fishnet dress to the 2005 VMAs which didn’t cover anything, including her minuscule black g-string. Camera flash or not, there was no hiding Austin’s nipples in that number.

More recently Rihanna added herself to the list of naked-dress-wearing celebrities.

The pop star wore a completely see-through dress to the 2014 CFDA Awards in June, with just a nude-coloured g-string to hide her privates.

The dress was covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals, but it failed to hide her nipples, or her behind.

Rihanna told reporters at the event, “you will never be stylish if you don’t take risks”.

Her risk must have paid off, because she receivedthe Fashion Icon award at the event.

Robin Wright Slays the Emmys Red Carpet in a Custom Ralph Lauren Jumpsuit

Robin Wright as Claire Underwood on House of Cards can do no wrong: Those arms, that hair, those tailored-to-a-T shift dresses, not to mention the cutting, calculated delivery. And at the Emmy Awards tonight, Robin Wright proved she can do no wrong on the red carpet. The 48-year-old actress looks un-f*cking-believable in a white custom Ralph Lauren tuxedo jumpsuit. (Ralph Laurentweeteda sneak peek before Wright even hit the red carpet.) An easy contender for one of the best dressed of the night.

And best beauty, too. Wright’s makeup artist, Tricia Sawyer (who also does the makeup for House of Cards) filled us in on how she prepped the star.

Wright doesn’t like to wear a lot of makeup, so they really decided to focus on the skin. “I began by applying Orlane Super-Moisturizing Light Cream with a sponge and pressing it into her skin, concentrating a lot under the eyes,” explained Sawyer. “Then I went back with the Absolute Skin Recovery Care Eye Contour and applied that under her eyes as well. Your skin gets so stressed out going through these events that keeping it really moisturized is key to having the makeup last all night.”

For foundation, Sawyer used Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and concealer, she then powdered her face with Orlane Transparent Loose Powder using a brush and concentrating on the T-Zone. She used Orlane Bronzer to contour her face with a small angled blush brush along her jawline and the hollows of her cheeks. Then she dusted Chanel blush in Rose Bronze and In Love on her cheekbones.

Sawyer really wanted to enhance Wright’s gorgeous blue eyes, so she used abronze Chanel shadow, Mac eyeliner in Power Surge, then a coat of Orlane Volume Care Mascara, followed by individual false lashes, and another coat of mascara. And finally, she topped off the look Duwop lip plump, and a Dior lip gloss with a bit of gold shimmer to it. Stunning.

Dress for wedding-day comfort

Wedding attire is known more for style than comfort. Formal wear, high heels and the various trappings of wedding day wardrobes do not always equate to a day of comfort. While dressing up will never be the same as slipping into a well-worn pair of jeans, there are ways for brides, grooms and guests to be comfortable on the big day.

* Dress for the weather. It’s tempting to put appearances before comfort. However, wearing clothing without regard for the weather is a surefire way to be uncomfortable all day long. Choose lightweight fabrics for warm weather occasions, and heavier fabrics when attending a winter wedding. Wraps, short jackets, muffs, and decorative scarves allow women to cover up if there’s a chill from the weather or if air conditioning is set too cold.

* Invest in alterations. Few people can wear clothing, especially formal attire, right off the rack. The services of a good tailor can prove invaluable. Shortened hemlines or tightened sleeves can make dresses fit better. Shapewear or support components may be added to the wedding gown so that extra undergarment layers can be avoided.

The less you have to fuss with clothing, the more comfortable you will be. Try on your outfit without alterations and point out the areas that are bothersome. Is a bodice slipping down? Is the tuxedo jacket a little too snug? Speak with the tailor about what can be done to remedy the situation.

* Choose the right size. Formal wear is frequently governed by a different set of sizes from everyday attire. Formal items are cut smaller and more in line with high fashion couture sizing. Expect to have to go up in size with regard to formal gowns. Instead of concerning yourself with the size on the tag, focus on the fit.

Squeezing into something that is too small can make you uncomfortable all evening long and inhibit your ability to enjoy yourself on the dance floor. Avoid discomfort (and split seams) by leaving some wiggle room in wedding day ensembles.

* Focus on footwear. Guests’ eyes likely won’t be on your feet. Still, many people subject themselves to uncomfortable shoes all in the name of fashion. The fastest way to an unenjoyable time is having to sit out a wedding because your shoes are causing excruciating pain.

New shoes sometimes need a period of breaking in, so wear them around the house to determine if they’re comfortable enough to wear for several hours at a time. Women should opt for the lowest heel possible to avoid pressure on the balls and arches of their feet. Floor-length wedding gowns usually cover a bride’s feet, so she has more leeway with finding an attractive, yet comfortable shoe. Outdoor weddings tend to be more casual than indoor affairs, and guests may be perfectly comfortable wearing sandals.

* Brides can go minimalist. Wedding dresses range from ethereal sheaths to layered princess gowns. The more fabric, tulle, boning and crinoline in the gown, the heavier it will be. Heavy gowns can make it difficult to move around, particularly when dancing or visiting the restroom. Unless you have your heart set on a full Cinderella look, scale back on your gown.

* Eat and choose healthy foods. Don’t skip meals the day of the wedding. Choose low-sodium, low-sugar foods that provide sustained energy without sitting heavily in your stomach or causing fluid retention. In addition, be sure to drink plenty of water. Dehydration and hunger pangs can ruin a wedding by causing fatigue, headaches and even fainting.

Comfort may not be a top priority when planning a wedding. But wedding guests and participants alike should dress with some manner of comfort in mind in order to make the day more enjoyable.

Jaime King’s Glowing Skin– Get EXACT Look!

Jaime’s makeup artist, Katey Denno, who is also the lead makeup artist for Burt’s Bees, shared how she achieved Jaime’s radiant and minimal makeup look.

She wanted to keep her makeup perfectly understated to compliment her beautiful Versace gown. “The look we created tonight is what I like to call ‘evening glamour goddess.’”

For her skin:

“Wanting to play up Jaime’s luminous, gorgeous skin, I began with a face oil and serum to prep the skin. I kept her foundation super light, using liquid foundation on her t-zone, and adding polka dots and moon beams along her cheekbones, the bridge of her nose, and her Cupid’s bow with a highlighting stick.”

For her eyes:

“Next, I intensified her glowing and healthy cheeks with a little mauve cream blush. Since this look was all about fresh, I kept Jaime’s eye makeup minimal, exaggerating her lash line with some extra lashes, her lids with a glowing nude eye shadow, and a whole lot of mascara. I finished with a matte brown shadow to define her crease. Jaime likes a full brow, so I defined her brows with a soft brown shadow and brushed them into place.”

For her lips:

“Finally — the lips! On her lips, I kept it simple withBurt’s Bees new Lip Crayons in Sedona Sands and Hawaiian Smolder. Together, it was the perfect pink-nude to complete the fresh faced look, and with a matte/satin finish, her lips will stand out perfectly, and will stay moisturized all night long.”
