America Ferrera shines in the simplest of all-black ensembles

Clearly, it is not about what you wear but how you wear it.

While most celebrities turn to high priced designer gowns for red carpet appearances, America Ferrera prefers to let her own beauty shine through without any fancy wrapping.

The 30-year-old star could not have picked a more plain outfit to wear to the New York screening of her animated feature How To Train Your Dragon 2 on Tuesday.

Not only did she skip wearing a frock, but the Ugly Betty star shunned almost all colour.

Instead, America stepped out wearing a pair of tight black figure flaunting jeans and a matching silk shirt with a leather collar and pushed up sleeves.

While simple, the actress did let a tiny bit of colour sneak in, donning a pair of red satin pointed toe pumps.

Keeping with her simple theme, the End Of Watch star wore no jewellery and tied back her hair in a low key bun with a side swept fringe.

America did add one more splash of colour, courtesy of a red shade of lipstick.

Following the actress’ dark dress sense was her co-star Kit Harrington with the 27-year-old donned a pair of dark jeans with a black and brown checked shirt.

The Game Of Thrones actor and America made sure to pose up with the dragon star of the film, Toothless, before heading into the screening.

Not out till Friday, America reprised her role of Astrid, the smart but beautiful Viking who does not take no for an answer.

The feisty blonde cartoon character is the crush of many of her male peers including main character Hiccup, played by Jay Baruchel.

The first installment of How To Train Your Dragon was a massive success, making $500 million at the box office when it came out in 2010.

The sequel is expected to make more when it is released in America on Friday.

Already DreamWorks is trying to convince director and writer Dean DeBlois to do a fourth film.
